About

Firungi, the project of Brooklyn-based artist and producer Rohan, takes its name from the Hindi word for foreigner and explores modern identity through rhythm. Rooted in global percussion and long-form club music, he treats the dancefloor as cultural ritual, building sets as journeys that move between Afro house, deep house, and Latin-inflected global grooves. He launched the Firungi Funk series in Seattle in 2021 before relocating to New York in 2022, and now runs the imprint Fly Foreign Records alongside releases through MoBlack Records and Black Book Records. His productions have drawn support from Keinemusik, Damian Lazarus, Bedouin, Dennis Cruz, and Jyoty, and he plays New York rooms including Outer Heaven, Superior Ingredients, and SILO. A South Asian voice in the city's deep and organic house scene, Firungi frames movement as identity and rhythm as common ground.
