Ushka is a Sri Lankan-born, Thailand-raised, and New York City-based DJ who traverses the intersections of electronic club and global bass music. Operating from the perspective of a dancer, she weaves together a transnational palette that includes soca, dancehall, South Asian rhythms, baile funk, and kuduro. She spent six years co-running the Brooklyn party iBomba and is a core member of the Dutty Artz collective, releasing signature 2013 mixtapes on the label such as "Foreign Brown" and "What Edward Said" alongside Brooklyn Shanti. Her performances have reached major cultural institutions across North America, including MoMA PS1, the Brooklyn Museum, The Shed, and Toronto's Harbourfront Centre. Beyond the club, she served as an artist in residence at the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at New York University, where she produced an audiovisual film and experimental performance about migration. By bridging her background in immigrant rights advocacy with expansive dancefloor curation, Ushka creates vital spaces for marginalized communities to find joy and solidarity through sound.
