Black Asteroid is the techno project of Bryan Black, a producer based in New York City who began his career in Minneapolis working as an engineer at Prince's Paisley Park before co-founding the group MOTOR. As Black Asteroid he builds an industrial strain of techno, cold and mechanical, released on labels including Mute Records and Chris Liebing's CLR, where the 2011 track Engine 1 marked his return to the dancefloor. His catalog reaches beyond club techno through vocal collaborations with Zola Jesus, Cold Cave, and Ian Astbury, and the 2024 album Infinite Darkness on Artoffact Records pushed further into post-punk and EBM territory. He performs live with hardware and has appeared at Berghain and across the international techno circuit.
