About

Detroit house & techno legend. Funky, driving sets from an underground architect.

DJ Minx is one of the foundational Detroit figures whose importance goes way beyond just being a great DJ. She has been a core part of the city’s underground since the early ’90s, and what makes her so respected is that she represents the house and techno lineage in a way that feels lived-in, funky, and fully authentic rather than ceremonial. Her sets can move from deep and minimal into boisterous, jackin’, vocal-heavy house without losing that Detroit backbone, and that range is a big part of why she has lasted across so many eras. Through Women on Wax, the collective she founded in 1996, and later Women on Wax Recordings, she also helped create real space for women in a scene that did not exactly make that easy. Add in the fact that “A Walk in the Park” became a true underground staple and that she has been a fixture of Detroit’s flagship festival circuit since the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and she reads not just as a veteran, but as a genuine architect of the culture.
